Thank you my love, for choosing this animal because its skeleton is just unbelievably beautiful. It's my favourite skeleton of any creature, and that's saying a lot since that includes my beloved dinosaurs, plus I kinda dislike cats. I'm sorry cat lovers but dogs for the win everytime!
I took the pose from a section of the "Pleistocene Panorama at Rancho La Brea" by the legend that was, Charles R.Knight. Here's the section with the Smilodon; [link]
I thought that looked like a Charles Knight cat body. Really nice job on this! I love skulls and skeletons and the way you've executed it in this picture with the watercolors is beautiful.
Oh geez, thank you! Yeah, I chose to use the sabre's pose because it is simply so perfect and 'strong', if you get me. Seemed to just fit for what I wanted of it. Thanks again, you really are too kind
I love the skeleton. That has to be said. It's awesome.
But honestly, I'm not too fond of the background. The fact that it's a complementary background is well done, this way the sabretooth comes out better. But I, myself, think that it would've looked better without background.
The background is a bit distracting (even though its plain blue lol), and makes the outlines of the sabretooth itself not stand out enough in my opinion. I keep on looking at the parts between the legs instead of the actual sabretooth and skeleton. Maybe it might've been better if the lines where the background and the sabretooth come together were a little more uniform/straight/sharper contrast. I'unno.
I completely agree with you on the outline part. I think it could have been more defined so the smilodon's fur and the deep blue of the background don't mix and blur. Perhaps a line of white around the edge? I guess I'll have to experiment wih that, but thank you for your honest and constructive feedback. It's so refreshing to hear, thank you
Thanks! Well I can only go on the pictures from skeletal reconstructions I've found such as these in the links below. I think the jaw in my pic is at the same angle, if not less than the ones shown in them.
